Bathroom Drawer Organization Ideas

NLI Blog Post bathroom drawer organization ideas by Houston interior designer Nancy Lane Interiors.

I am so in love with our new bathroom - it feels like a five star hotel every day when I shower and get dressed! A few weeks ago just before we left to go out of town, I remember thinking how much I'd rather just stay home and enjoy my new space. I'm not joking or even exagerrating. Part of why I love it so much is that I was able to design my storage needs according to the actual products I use every day, and rebuy throughout the year.

Take a peek into my vanity cabinets for some bathroom drawer organization ideas and inspiration on how to store your products the way that works best for you!

We did get rid of our medicine cabinets during the remodel although we did use them but I have to tell you we are both love love loving the custom vanities I designed. I knew without a doubt that I wanted to use more drawers than doors on our vanities and built in cabients. In fact, I only used doors directly underneath the sinks and only to aid in ease of access for the plumbing itself. Everywhere else we have drawers galore and I am here for it!

We invested in various sizes of open containers to categorize the products within each drawer. The hubs is much more of a minimalist than me when it comes to product so it was only a slight adjustment for him wondering where I'd put all his stuff but within a day or two he was onboard completely. In fact, every day he tells me how much he loves our bathroom. #musictomyears!

In my vanity, I have so much glorious storage space now including separate drawers for skin and hair products alone! I also included a built-in inner drawer (middle picture above) just for makeup that is much shallower, so everything is laying down and able to be seen! I wanted a clean look on the exterior of the vanity, so this was a great way to add functional storage without adding another drawer front into the mix!

This hair appliance drawer was a non-negotiable! I planned for outlets in the drawer from the very beginning so each hair tool had a home and a place to be used without pulling them in and out of drawers constantly! This was my first time, but certainly not my last, using this in-drawer outlet. There's several types to choose from but I opted for the 4 AC + 2 USB outlet capability since some of the skin gadgets I use have USB chargers. And you know I could not refuse to replace the coverplate with their brass option. #nobrainer #gobrassorgohome

I love these hard plastic containers and used them in my husband's drawers and used the taller ones in the drawer with my hair gadgets since the measurements worked best. The tall ones are perfect for holding all the accoutrement I have. I did use a heat resistant pad underneath just in case it's still a little warm after I use it before I put it away. In all the other drawers I used these plastic storage bins, again since the measurements worked better for my drawers. They do come in other colors but I personally prefer white because it helps me find things easier as I'm looking.

Overflow and extra products have a home too! Luckily this combo of containers just fit perfectly in here, so make sure you have exact measurements with you when you leave to shop for those. In person shopping with your measurements on paper (I do a little diagram on graph paper personally), and a small tape measure is the best way, in my opinion! You can absolutely do this online too, but having to buy so many of them and then not having them fit would annoy me to no end!

Tip: Don't be afraid to grab two tape measures to plot out your drawer measurements and then mix and match containers on the store floor. You would have seen me doing that at The Container Store recently and if someone stops and stares, just smile or wave and know they're giving you props with their inner voice.

I like to keep my travel accessories separate from my day to day needs, and bigger containers like this are great for overflow that you may not expect. I'd also rather outfit a drawer with containers that can be filled later, rather than leaving it open and ready for clutter to collect. #iykyk

I can't wait to show y'all how everything turned out with the bathroom as a whole! We are awaiting one final special detail plus a few very minor touch ups to fix now that we've been living in the space for a couple of weeks, but please stay tuned. It will be worth it!
