First though, let's start with a before photo so you can see what a long way we've come...

MEDIA ROOM BEFORE

The previous owners of this house had a media room set up in what is now the playroom for the new kids in town, our clients two littles. We felt this space was better suited as a TV watching place to chillax since it is on the other side of the second floor and away from their kids bedrooms. It also has a set of doors that can close and keep the noise contained. This room also has much more space available for a big sectional, which was a must for our client since he is super tall.

MEDIA ROOM MID-CONSTRUCTION

Above is a snapshot we took mid-construction. We painted the walls and ceiling all white to let the angles of the architecture disappear and give us a great blank slate to work with. I know they love how it turned out, and I'm right there with them! See what I mean...

As with all our clients, we went through how exactly they'd like to use this media room during the design process and ask a ton of detailed questions that ultimately inform every facet in the room. The windows actually had decent shutters that could be reused, and they didn't care to have blackout shades in this space, which is usually a big request for a media space. The big must-have was a large sectional, and a really large TV for sports watching and movies. We ended up with an 85" TV and an extra deep sectional for him being well over 6' tall, so win win!

They shared that they are big movie buffs so we asked for a list of favorite movies. He gave us a pretty varied list but we serendipitously found a fantastic vendor that makes super chic modern versions of movie posters from a wide array of genres and decades. The colors worked beautifully for the overall look of this space, as well as the rest of the house. We ordered multiples since that's really all we needed art wise (three big custom framed posters on each wall) - this Texas sized space called for big art, instead of small little pieces. #gobigorstayhome

We knew the custom sectional would be the biggest thing in the room and during the design concept phase I kept gravitating to this particular fabric - the feel and the color. We've done little pops of green all throughout the house, and this gray has just the right amount of green in person! This was the option that the client also gravitated toward in each iteration of the design, so we knew this was a winner all around.

We brought color and texture in with the yummiest of fabrics for the ottoman and some of the throw pillows on the sectional as well! The ottoman fabric was an instant yes - it's a striped mohair that is so yummy it's almost lickable - it was that good!

I knew immediately at first sight that it would most likely be top-tier grading, aka the most expensive option. And of course it was, but using an expensive fabric on a smaller item can reduce the cost dramatically, and still give you this wow moment! Now there's a soft place to put their feet up, and still room for a tray for drinks and snacks.

The warm, wood tone of the media console was just the right touch in here, and the open design of the wood allows TV components housed inside to breathe and allows for ventilation.

I love how this luscious whiskey colored velvet came out, and it's funny that this actually wasn't the first choice! This room was technically the last room of the house to be designed, and this client couldn't make a few of the last meetings, so his wife and I picked a gorgeous geometric fabric for this chair. He could not be convinced about the geometric to save his life, and long story short that particular fabric ended up being discontinued before ordering was finalized.

I think this solid velvet makes the ottoman stand out even more, in a good way, and this velvet is so rich and adds another great texture to this room. Some things are just meant to be!

Many a Super Bowl and movie night will be hosted in here, and I can't wait to get the happy client texts after the first big event :)
